Hassane El-Khoury is president, chief executive officer and a member of the board of directors at Cypress. He was previously executive vice president of Cypress’s Programmable Systems Division, managing the company’s standard and programmable microcontroller (MCU) portfolio, including its Platform PSoC family of devices, and its automotive business.
Prior to that, El-Khoury ran Cypress's automotive business unit, architecting its human-machine interface strategy—which is focused on the automotive touch business—and spearheading its effort to target the growing infotainment, instrumentation cluster and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) segments. Under El-Khoury, the automotive business unit significantly expanded its revenue, market share and technology leadership.
Prior to joining Cypress, El-Khoury served in various engineering roles with subsystem supplier Continental Automotive Systems, where he spent time based in the U.S., Germany and Japan. He has a deep understanding of customer and design requirements in the automotive and industrial markets, as well as a systems-level understanding of how chips work together to form integrated customer solutions.
El-Khoury holds a bachelor's of science degree in electrical engineering (BSEE) from Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, Mich., and a master's degree in engineering management from Oakland University in Rochester Hills, Mich.
Michael Balow is the executive vice president of sales and applications at Cypress. Prior to his current role, he was the vice president of worldwide sales and distribution at Spansion, where he was instrumental in growing sales in Japan, Southeast Asia, Korea, China and Taiwan, and establishing a new APAC distribution channel strategy.
Balow has more than 25 years of global semiconductor and defense industry experience in sales and engineering leadership roles. Prior to his most recent position at Spansion, he was vice president of sales for North America and Southeast Asia for Integrated Device Technologies (IDT), where he was responsible for driving revenue, design-ins, distribution channel strategy and execution, manufacturer rep management, and go-to market and strategic marketing plans. Prior to IDT, Balow was the area sales manager for Freescale Semiconductor and an engineering manager at Lockheed Martin.
Balow holds a bachelor’s degree in applied mathematics from the University of Wisconsin-Stout.
Chris Cook was appointed Chief Marketing Officer at Cypress in March 2017. Cook is a high-tech executive with valuable learning from his experiences leading global semiconductor, system and software businesses in various market segments, including automotive, industrial, and consumer applications within the emerging Internet of Things (IoT). In his CMO role, he is responsible for driving the marketing and communications strategy to clearly position Cypress as the embedded solutions leader and as a problem solver to customers.
Cook previously served as the President of Flex Power, a leading global supplier of high-value power solutions for mobile devices, cloud infrastructure and IoT products. Prior to Flex Power, he served on the senior leadership team at Infineon Technologies, where he held numerous executive roles with P&L, General Management, Engineering, Sales and Marketing responsibilities. Most recently, he was co-founder and CEO of Cauz Colony, a social impact start-up focused on using digital marketing to connect people, brands and charities to raise awareness.
He holds a BS in Electrical Engineer and Technology from Purdue University and attended the Executive Leadership Program at Harvard Business School.
Sabbas Daniel was appointed executive vice president of quality at Cypress Semiconductor Corporation in January, 2006. Mr. Daniel is responsible for driving Cypress towards developing and implementing processes with zero defects in the design and technology, R&D, wafer fabrication, assembly, and testing operations. Mr. Daniel joined Cypress in 1998 as director of failure analysis in support of R&D, manufacturing, and customers, and later promoted to be responsible for Cypress's reliability and field quality organizations. Before joining Cypress, he worked at Samsung Semiconductor in Korea as director of reliability in the system LSI, memory, LCD, and alpha microprocessor operations. Mr. Daniel holds B.S. degrees in Physics and Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
J. Augusto de Oliveira is executive vice president and chief technical officer for Cypress. He is responsible for platform architectures, intellectual property and patents, internal startups and longer-term strategic planning.
Oliveira joined Cypress in 2007 as senior vice president and CTO of Cypress’s Memory and Data Communications divisions. In late 2008, his role was expanded to include all divisions. Oliveira has worked on the definition of technical strategies and products such as Cypress’s EZ-USB® FX3™ USB 3.0 controllers, TrueTouch® controllers, next-generation Quad Data Rate™ and PSoC® products.
Oliveira has more than 25 years of experience in R&D management and technology strategy for very-large-scale systems-on-chip, including both chip design and software development. He has held technical and management positions with Philips in The Netherlands and the United States, including manager of the Philips MIPS Technology Center and CTO and systems development manager for the Handheld Computing Group that created the SoC and companion IC for the first generation of Microsoft handheld PCs. From 1999 to 2005, Oliveira was chief architect and innovation manager for the consumer business of Philips Semiconductors, and led the architecture definition and technical strategy for the Nexperia digital video platform.
Oliveira received his Master's degree from the Philips International Institute, Eindhoven, The Netherlands in 1990 and a bachelor's degree in 1985 from the Universidade Federal de Pernambuco, Brazil - all in electrical engineering.
Sam Geha was named senior vice president of the Memory Product Division at Cypress in September 2016. He also serves as a board member of Enovix, a Silicon-based Lithium Ion battery start-up co-funded by Cypress. Geha previously served as the senior vice president of the Intellectual Property (IP) Business Unit, where he oversaw licensing Cypress’s various embedded nonvolatile memory technologies (SONOS and eCT) to foundries, including TSMC, UMC, HLMC and HH-Grace, as well as licensing Cypress’s 3D NAND technology to XMC. Under Geha, the IP Business unit significantly expanded its revenue, market share and technology leadership. Prior to that, he was the vice president of the Technology R&D organization. He also founded and wrote the business plan for Deca Technologies, a Wafer-Level Chip-Scale Packaging start-up, funded by Cypress and SunPower.
Geha joined Cypress in 1995 and has served as the senior director of technology development for SONOS and the director of technology development for MRAM and SRAM technologies. He has a deep understanding of how chips are developed, designed and qualified.
Prior to joining Cypress, Geha worked in various technology development functions at Motorola and National Semiconductor.
He holds a bachelor’s of science degree in electrical engineering (BSEE), a master’s of science in electrical engineering (MSEE) and a philosophical doctorate in electrical engineering (PhD) from the University of Arizona.
Sudhir Gopalswamy was promoted to senior vice president of the Programmable Systems Division (PSD) at Cypress in September 2016. In this role he is responsible for all aspects of the business. Gopalswamy joined Cypress in 2008 and has managed a variety of business units (BU), including the Timing Solutions BU, the Synchronous SRAM BU and most recently the MCU BU.
Prior to joining Cypress, he worked at Conexant, where he was responsible for the cable set-top box product line. Before Conexant, Gopalswamy spent nine years at Intel Corporation, during which he held management and leadership roles of increasing responsibility, spanning the computing, communications/networking and consumer electronics segments.
He holds a BSEE in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University and an MBA from Duke University.
Dana Nazarian was named executive vice president of Operations & Technology in August 2016. He was the executive vice president for the Memory and Imaging Division during 2009-2016.
Nazarian is a career Cypress employee. He joined Cypress in 1988 as a product engineer and was later promoted to fab process engineering manager, responsible for half of Cypress’s Fab2 facility in Round Rock, Texas. In 1994, Nazarian became yield manager for Fab 2—a position he held for three years.
From 1997-2001, Nazarian was director of yield and technology transfer for Cypress until shifting roles to direct product engineering for the Micropower SRAM Business Unit in 2001. In 2005, he was named senior director of the Synchronous SRAM Business Unit, and was later promoted to vice president in 2008.
Nazarian graduated from Renesselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1988 with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
Pamela Tondreau was named Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary at Cypress in September 2016. She joined Cypress in 2014, serving as Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary.
Prior to joining Cypress, Tondreau spent 13 years at Hewlett-Packard Company in various roles, including Chief Intellectual Property Counsel and Deputy General Counsel to the CTO, HP Labs, HP Networking, IP Licensing, Strategic Initiatives and Global Alliances. In addition, she supported the Chief Marketing Officer, the Chief Information Officer and the EVP of Personal Systems, as well as serving as Corporate Secretary to the Technology Committee of the Board of Directors. Prior to Hewlett-Packard, Tondreau was an associate at Thelen, Marrin, Johnson & Bridges, serving as both a litigation and corporate attorney.
Tondreau holds a bachelor’s degree from UC Berkeley and a JD from McGeorge School of Law.
Thad Trent has been executive vice president and chief financial officer at Cypress since June 2014. Trent oversaw Cypress’s merger with Spansion, which was finalized in March 2015, establishing the company as an embedded systems leader. He has more than 20 years of experience in the technology industry leading spinoffs, acquisitions, divestitures and capital market transactions. Previously he held finance leadership roles at publicly traded companies Wind River Systems and Wyle Electronics, as well as two technology startups. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Finance at San Diego State University. Trent joined Cypress in 2005 and had been vice president of finance since 2010. Prior to serving as CFO, he led the strategic planning functions for Cypress’s business units and worldwide operations and he managed the financial reporting, accounting, and planning and analysis functions. Trent is a director on the boards of Cypress subsidiaries AgigA Tech and Deca Technologies.
Wei-Chung brings a wealth of leadership experience and technical expertise in semiconductor manufacturing operations and engineering. Previously, he was Senior Vice President of Operations at Fairchild Semiconductor, responsible for overseeing fab and assembly/test, foundry/subcons, supply chain, procurement, product and test engineering, packaging development, and process development. Wei-Chung elevated Fairchild’s operational excellence, accelerated its process and packaging development, managed important transfer and ramp projects and drove improvements in cost, quality, and manufacturing flexibility.
Prior to Fairchild, Wei-Chung managed external manufacturing at Maxim Integrated where he significantly improved the flexibility of their manufacturing network, including foundry, wafer level packaging, and test areas. He also led Maxim’s strategy to enable the transition of analog BCD technology to 300mm lines to improve cost, quality, and capacity. Wei-Chung held numerous executive and management roles at TSMC and Intel, including technology development and engineering before joining Maxim.
Wei-Chung earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from National Cheng-Kung University in Taiwan and a master's degree and Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Purdue University.
